About Pastor – Teacher John E. Bowden

John E. Bowden was Born in Los Angeles, California and was raised in the city by his parents, Harry Bowden(deceased) and Daniel and Huelor Dawson. His siblings include David, Daniel II, Dannise and Delois.

He was educated in the Los Angeles City School System, graduating from Alain Leroy Locke High School. He also attended Los Angeles City and West Los Angeles Junior Colleges. He studied religious courses at Biola University in LaMirada, Ca. and Talbot Theological Seminary (off Campus).

He worked in the Aero Space Industry for over twenty years at Hughes Aircraft Company in Los Angeles where he met the love of his life, Theresa Jean Love and finally married her in 1977. They were blessed with their first child, Teria Jenise, a beautiful and precious little girl in July of 1978 followed by a healthy and just as precious little boy, Terell Jason in June of 1980.

He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church of West Los Angeles where the Reverend Roceilia Johnson was his Pastor from childhood until his call to the Ministry in 1983. After accepting the call to preach he also accepted an invitation to join one of the associates of Bethany, Dr. Bill Burwell who had organized a local congregation in which was named, First Berean Christian Church to serve as the Youth Minister. He was licensed in May of 1984 and ordained in February of 1988 by Dr. Burwell while serving as Youth Pastor.

In 1991 after much prayer and consultation he accepted a job offer which would afford his family an opportunity to relocate, ending up permanently in Birmingham, Alabama.

Since being in Birmingham the Lord has graciously added to his family by way of a Son in law, Jason Allen McCrear, and he is the proud grandfather of seven, Four boys: Isaiah, Isaac, William John, and Zachariah, and three girls: Zion, Zoe’, and Iyana.

He is currently serving as Senior Pastor at the Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church, Graysville, Al, and has been for the last five years.

In conclusion, of all of the accomplishments in his life there is only one that he holds very dearly and treasures it highly above anything else and that is being called by the Only True and Living God of Heaven to be a chosen vessel of His to prepare and equip His people for service in His kingdom.
